What is an Internship?

An internship can take place in a company, a laboratory or even in a hospital. Following the successful completion of the theoretical education in subjects like Management, Chemistry or Medical Sciences the students of higher educational institutions are supposed to gain relevant practical experience. The purpose of an internship is to apply theoretical knowledge in working contexts.

In order to facilitate the internship, the higher education institutions may work in collaboration with corporate entities or government institutions that host the internship. Also, there are occasions in which students are asked to make contact themselves with an appropriate institution to gain practical experience. In either case, students are not considered as a permanent employee of the hosting institute or given a considerable wage for their work. As well, the usual working hours, conditions, rules and regulations are most of the time not applied to interns. A temporary supervisor appointed by the particular company/organization is normally in charge of the interns during the internship.

What is Training?

Training is a learning process that involves the acquisition of knowledge, sharpening of skills, concepts, and rules. So, training means you are already an employee But maybe you are new and it's your first job in that industry so they need to train you. so, Training is basically a synonym for education, although it can not more practical learning than abstract, theoretical learning.

Training usually takes place in a company, a vocational training institute, a training center or even outdoors when the outbound training is concerned. The purpose of training is providing an opportunity for permanent or temporary employees of an organization to develop their work-related skills. For instance, soft skills, leadership skills, technical skills in operating machinery, language/clerical skills could be pointed out. Training is meant for further advancement of a specific job/profession. Some organizations make their temporary staffs permanent depending on successful completion of training. Also, completion of training is considered as a qualification for promotions in a specific word line. The employees who undergo training receive remuneration from the related company or institution unlike in an internship.

Some Key Differences Between Internship And Training

Internship And Training are two entirely different things.

1. The first difference between the two is their duration. Training is provided to the permanent employees of the company either they are existing employees or new employees. After completing the internship term, you are not bound to work for the company. While in case of training, you remain the permanent employee of the company.

2. The internship is for a fixed term, which can be up to 3 months to 12 months. After completion of the internship, you are awarded a certificate. However, training provides no certificate and often the term of training is less than an internship.

3. An internship offers much practical exposure as you're assigned for months on a project and there are expectations regarding deliverables at the completion of the project. On the other hand in training, you're usually expected to just prepare documentation of things you've learned at the end of the training period.

4. An internship can be paid or unpaid. Sometimes companies charge a fee from government or institutes for providing the internship. While employees are paid according to their fixed salary during training.

5. Companies offered an internship program in summer when students are free from universities. Training to a new employee is provided after his appointment, and to the existent employee, it is provided as new challenges appeared.
